Description

NGC 4361 is a dying star that was once a lot like our sun, before it evolved and puffed out its outer layers. The object is unusual in that is has four lobes, or jets, of ejected material instead of the standard two. Astronomers suspect there might be two dying stars inside the nebula, each producing a bipolar jet. The orange/red center primarily shows heated gas.

My Stellarium software calls this one The Lawn Sprinkler Nebula but I can't find another reference to that name anywhere?? I cropped the image down quite a bit for it come into view as it is tiny at a magnitude of 10.9.

Also known as PK 294+43.1

Thanks, Eddie
